Health Benefits of Herbal Teas
Exploration into Chinese herbal medicine began over
3,500 years ago. Chinese medicine works on different philosophical principles
than western medicine. The herbal teas promote healing by harmonizing
all aspects of our being, physical, emotional, and spiritual. When any aspect
of our being is out of balance, this will bring illness. For example, when we
eat too much, the illness
(indigestion) is almost immediate. Though when we eat our next meal and
don't over do it (in balance) we do not have the problem.
Herbal teas help our bodies in so many different ways.
Boost our blood, increases our libido, supports our nervous systems and
strengthen our immune systems.
In Chinese medicine, every aroma and flavor is associated with organ systems
of the body. These formulas are not put formulated randomly, but
consciously, to benefit our system. Such as the sweet flavor found
in anise seed has a special affinity for the stomach and spleen; the bitter
flavor in dandelion leaf affects the heart and small intestines, helping to
improve digestion and aid fat metabolism. The pungent flavor in ginger,
which I happen to LOVE, helps to improve lung capacity and large
intestine health. Plus, can't forget those sour flavor such as in
rose hips which stimulates the functions of the liver and gall
bladder. The salty flavor in seaweed is beneficial to the kidneys
and bladder. The benefits are immediate - as soon as we taste the herbal teas, our
brains receive signals from the subtle qualities of the plants.
At times when any one asks "Would you like a cup of
Tea?" Most people
think of black or green tea. Or in the Chinese restaurants, Oolong is
the first thought. But No, broaden the mind, some of the best tasting
teas are herbal. Lemon and Ginger is one of my favorites during
the hot summer days. During the Winter, sits a large cup of
Peppermint tea on my desk to help bright the day, and at night, I would not know what to do without
my Chrysanthemum
Flower Tea.....not Chamomile for me. Experiment, get wild, try the many
teas, which you have been missing out of.
It make sense to drink herbal teas, it really doesn't matter
if you are sick or healthy. The benefits from Herbal teas, are
great for everyone. The teas are a beautiful color, the aroma is superb
and beneficial; which can help you on a cold winter night. Once you start
understanding herbal teas, you will wonder why you hadn't started
before.
If I can just say one more work about herbal teas...
thanks...When trying a new tea, don't use a microwave to heat the water up.
Boil the water on the stove and bring it to a full boil. Then add the
tea bag, and if it is a new tea for you, then brew one minute and taste
it. If not strong enough, let it brew two minutes and taste
it. Find the brewing time that suits you. The reason I say
this is
if I brew my favorite, Peppermint tea for more than 2 minutes to me it taste
like a dirty sock. But, if I only brewed my Bojenmi tea for 2
minutes I would think it is too weak. So don't give up on teas,
find the BREW TIME which you like, it does make a difference.
