Goldenseal is used specifically for the mucous membranes.
It is sometimes referred to as "the King of the Mucous Membranes". Thus, it
is used in the treatment of congestion and chronic inflammation of the
respiratory tract. Sometimes it is used for female problems relating to
inflammation of the vagina, uterus, and urethra.
Goldenseal can be used to reduce inflammation of the eyes
as an eyewash, but because it is gritty, always strain it through
cheesecloth beforehand.
Recently, goldenseal has been used for liver and stomach
complaints, to increase appetite and the secretion of bile, and for urinary
and uterine problems. |
