Kelp is the common name for seaweed. It absorbs fats and has been shown to have efficacy for obesity,
and rheumatism. Kelp is harvested commercially for food and for other substances, like alginates, which are used as thickeners.
Kelp is a good promoter of glandular health. It is beneficial for hypothyroidism as it controls the thyroid and regulates the metabolism, which helps digest food.[7] Kelp is rich in essential nutrients, such as calcium, potassium and iodine. As a rich natural source of iodine -which is not found in abundance in the diet - kelp may be especially important to those with under-active thyroids (hypothyroidism).[8] Kelp is another one of those living things that is radically different from anything on the land. It is a marine plant.[9]
Kelp is a cold-water seaweed that belongs to the family Laminariaceae. It is a large, floating plant that grows in large masses (called kelp forests) and is held to the sea floor by a holdfast . Kelp is a kind of brown seaweed that grows to be very large.
