Mullein leaf is an appropriate herb to add to a tea mix along with red clover, plantain, calendula blossoms and marshmallow leaf and root for healing damaged lung tissue. Mullein leaf, calendula and Echinacea root in combination help to reduce swollen glands.[1]
The leaves have an expectorant and soothing effect on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.[2]
Mullein, when taken as a tea, is used for respiratory tract
mucous membrane inflammation. Mullein leaf is a highly-regarded, safe lung tonic of particular use for respiratory ailments, such as asthma, laryngitis, chronic bronchitis, and dry
coughs, cough, whooping cough, tuberculosis, bronchitis,
hoarseness, pneumonia, earaches, colds, chills and flu, fever, allergies, and
tonsillitis. Other uses include asthma, diarrhea, colic, gastrointestinal
bleeding, migraines, and gout. It is also used as a sedative, narcotic,
diuretic, and antirheumatic. Topically, mullein is used for wounds, burns,
hemorrhoids, bruises, frostbite, erysipelas, and inflamed mucosa. The leaves
are used topically to soften and protect the skin. Mullein contains
harpagoside, harpagide, aucubin, hesperidin, verbascoside, saponins, and
volatile oils.
