Siberian Ginseng is a root that has been used as medicine amongst Native Americans and the peoples of China and Korea for thousands of years. The herb is traditionally used as preventative medicine, but has exceptional therapeutic benefits for several medical conditions.[4]
Siberian ginseng is considered a cooling herb and is best
taken in the warmer months. Korean ginseng is considered warming, and is better
suited for the colder months.
Siberian Ginseng regulates protein metabolism, energy and
nucleic acid in the body's tissues. When the body experiences stress, a
substance in the blood is generated. This substance interferes with the normal
activity of the cells. Basically this means that Siberian ginseng
controls the most important processes of energy production in the body and helps
send energy where it's needed most.
Eleuthero (Acanthopanax senticosus root)
has been shown to improve the muscular use of oxygen, making it possible
extended aerobic exercise and to recover faster. Ci Wu Jia maybe able to
relieve chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.
Siberian Ginseng supports the working of the adrenal glands and helps with
nervous tension. Siberian Ginseng also boosts overall immune function and may
play a role in the treatment of hypertension, blood sugar irregularities and
depression.
Siberian ginseng, also known as eleuthero, has been used for centuries in Eastern countries, including China and Russia. Although a distant relative of American ( Panax quinquefolius ) and Asian ginseng ( Panax ginseng ), with some overlap in its uses, Siberian ginseng is a distinct plant with different active chemical components.[10] Siberian Ginseng is not a 'true' Ginseng as it is only remotely related to the 'true' Ginsengs (such as the well-known Panax Ginseng). However, it is commonly regarded as such for its similar adaptogenic properties.[11]
The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of
the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Eleuthero root as a tonic for
invigoration and building up in times of fatigue, debility or declining
capacity for work.
Siberian ginseng may be used by grinding and made into tea or
by boiling the root in water (called a decoction). It may also be extracted in
alcohol (called a tincture) or put into capsules that contain the pulverized
root.
Cautions/Contraindications:
Siberian ginseng should not be taken if pregnant or nursing without consulting
your doctor. People having high blood pressure should talk with their doctor
before using because it may reduce the need for medication. It should not
be given to children
